Why Choose a Summer Program?

    • The summer break represents far more than a simple pause in your child's academic calendar, it marks a pivotal developmental stage.

    • Research consistently shows that without structured engagement and purposeful activity, children are significantly more susceptible to the "summer slide" a measurable decline in academic retention that can set them back weeks, or even months, when the school year resumes.

    • In today's hyper-connected digital landscape, digital screens and passive entertainment competes directly with the cognitive habits your child spent an entire school year building, quietly eroding focus, discipline, and foundational learning.

    • Prolonged periods of unstructured time can also contribute to the deprioritization of school, a loss of academic routine, and most critically a weakening of the behavioral frameworks children rely on to thrive in a classroom environment. Studies indicate that children who lack meaningful summer enrichment are statistically more likely to exhibit disruptive behaviors upon returning to school, creating unnecessary obstacles to a strong academic start.

    • The good news? This window of time is also a powerful opportunity. With the right support, structure, and engagement, summer can become one of the most impactful seasons in your child's development not a setback, but a springboard.

    • We at BackYardEquity believe that a family's income should never determine the quality of a child's experience. That's why we've created a fully free summer program for 4th–8th grade students whose household is facing financial difficulties. The program will deliver the same enriching activities, mentorship, and community found at premier camps while also including special activities that are not available at those camps. Every child deserves an unforgettable summer experience.

    • Our program is committed to ensuring that every young person regardless of financial background has access to an exceptional, enriching summer experience. We offer students in grades 4 through 8 a high-quality summer program at absolutely no cost to families, delivering the same caliber of programming typically found at premier camps valued at $700–$1,000 per week.

    • Students only qualify for 1 week of programming. Placement into program schedule will be dependent on grade level.

  • This summer experience is designed with purpose, expertise, and your child's long-term success in mind. Every element of our program has been thoughtfully curated to nurture the academic, social, and creative dimensions of your child's growth. All within a safe, structured, and inspiring environment.
